Nepal Achieves Historic Milestone: Declared Rubella-FreeNepal has reached a historic public health milestone as the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Regional Verification Commission officially declared the country rubella-free on 18 August 2025. This recognition confirms that Nepal has successfully eliminated the transmission of the rubella virus for more than three years.The achievement has been made possible through the government’s strong determination, the tireless dedication of health workers and FCHVs, the active role of citizens, and the continued support of development partners.Health experts highlight that this certification not only safeguards children from life-threatening complications caused by rubella but also demonstrates Nepal’s growing strength in immunization and disease prevention.Moving forward, the Ministry of Health and Population is committed to:Expanding access to vaccination servicesStrengthening the surveillance systemImplementing the post-elimination action planThis milestone marks a proud moment for Nepal, proving that with commitment, collaboration, and community participation, public health goals can be achieved.
